St Peters Lutheran Church Bower, Lunch & Service Planned For 10th March 2024
Mel Zerner is pleased to be able to give an update on the busy times at the St Peters Lutheran Church Bower over the year and plans for the new year.
“I am pleased to advise that there will be another lunch, Church service & afternoon tea on SUNDAY 10 MARCH 2024 commencing 12 noon at the church & Sunday School rooms. Pastor Ian Lutze will be preaching the sermon and I will be leading the remainder of the service.
“So please put this date in your calendars and we look forward to a good turnout of people and reasonably fine moderate weather.”
“The church and cemeteries have been used over the last 12 months as follows:
- Committal service at the St Peters cemetery for the burial of Jean Freund on Monday 6 March 2023.
- Committal service at the St Peters cemetery for the burial of Jean Freund on Monday 6 March 2023.
- Service at St Peters church and cemetery for the celebration of life and burial of Alice Hoffman on 6 August 2023.
- Tour of Bower church, cemeteries and surrounding areas by members of the Kaeding family on Friday 6 October 2023.
- Reunion day, tour & lunch at the Bower Sunday School rooms by the Schwerdt family on Sunday 15 October 2023.
“There has also been other phone calls from people interested in the history of the church and cemeteries so there is much interest in the Bower Lutheran Church.
“The major maintenance projects in the last year were as follows:
- Painting of church roof as previously reported in March 2023.
- Painting of church roof as previously reported in March 2023.
- Painting of the 2 outside toilets in October 2023 with the same colour as the church roof – Woodland Grey. My friend, Peter Shrowder assisted me over 2 days in spray painting the toilets first with a primer undercoat and then with the top coat. They look great and are very suitable for general use for services and functions etc. I have attached photos of the toilets before and after painting for your information.
“The next major project is the painting of the outside walls of the church and this is planned sometime in 2024. I will be using some professional assistance due to the height issues, but there will be plenty of lower painting work of windows etc where volunteers can assist. Please let me know if you are interested in assisting with the painting.
“There have been some major expenses over the last 12 months as follows:
- Painting of church roof $5494.50
- Paint for Toilets $566.30
- Electricity accounts over the last 18 months $830.76 (catch up due to mail not being received)
- Church Insurance $1169.31
“The balance of the bank account at 28 November 2023 is $3627.
“Donations to pay for ongoing expenses such as electricity & insurance as well as the cost of the painting of the church walls would be appreciated.
