Eudunda Bowls News 4th March 2024
Last Tuesday the Night Bowlers experienced hot competition on a hot night. Interstate visitor Carolyn Doering and new bowler Katrina joined in the fun with sixteen regular night bowlers. Helen Vater won the raffle, and the winners of the night were George Mitev, Trevor Prior and Murray Sauer, who played against Mally Schutz, and our impressive new bowlers Jane Felby and Rob Cavanagh. The other two rinks had tied shots up. Night Bowls organiser Rhonda Horne announced that the Red Cross Night is on Wednesday 20th March at 7pm for 7.30 start, and the Presentation Night is on Friday 22nd March at 6pm for 6.30 dinner. The last night of the season for Night Bowls is Tuesday 26th March.
The ladies played Mount Pleasant on our turf and had a successful day 79-32. Joy Hams played Dot Holt and her team a force to be reckoned with, resulting in a draw 17 each, Doreen Twartz played Pat Bland and had a comfortable win 30-8, while Ruth Scoot had a great day 32-7 against Virginia Carnell. Being the last match of the minor round, Eudunda hosted a luncheon for the Mount Pleasant ladies, which was well received with plenty of chat and laughter. Eudunda Ladies then had a meeting to finalise catering for a series of events including the Association Championships on Sunday 10th March and Monday 11th March,
Eudunda’s Thursday Division 1 men faced the top team in Nuriootpa at Nuriootpa and finished 36-79. Ian ‘Lumpy’ Griffiths had a tough day 10-29 against Geoff Langley, Preston Eva had an even tougher day against Stuart Forbes 9-33, while Greg Prior kept pace with Gary Chapman 17- all.
Division 2 played Angaston at Angaston and were outdone 53-82. Murray Sauer was the only shining light by winning a long-lasting game 21-19 against Brenton Stokes, Ron Hams had a battle against John Standish 16-29, and Ron Milde likewise against David Tye 16-34.
Saturday’s Division 1 played Nuriootpa on our home turf though not an advantage this week. Ian Griffiths lost out to L Fuss13-23, Kym Schutz lost his battle against S Forbes 20-30, Tait Rogers went down to B Brown 17-23, and the shining light was Aaron Jones with his win over R Grope 27-22.
Division 3 played Nuriootpa at Nuriootpa with resounding success across all 3 rinks, Ruth Scoot had a battle against Alan Masters but came out the victors 17-15, Kiwi TeAu had a good win over Leon Hein31-15, and colourful Ron Hams also enjoyed a good win over Bruce Kerwich 28-20.
Division 4 game was forfeited by Nuriootpa.
Team of the Week was Thursday Ladies – Ruth Scoot, Pat Obst, Joy Fiegert and Marg Nietschke.
The club has concluded some of the Championships and competitions. Joy Hams and Pam Dutschke won the Championship Pairs with runners-up Ruth Scoot and Judy Milde; Judy Milde won the Championship Singles with runner-up Ruth Scoot; and Greg Prior won the 100-Up with runner-up Felix Schiller.
Next week is the last Saturday match of the minor round (March 9th), so the bowling club is having a fish and chips tea at the clubhouse – hope to see you all there.
