Eudunda Bowls News 27th November 2023
Night Bowls winner was George Mitev, runner-up Liz Kleinig, and Encouragement Award to Katrina Turner. Mally Schutz won the raffle. Ron Milde arrived late to celebrate his 80th birthday with the bowlers.
Last Wednesday, there was a rare sighting of a cormorant on the green! A sign of rain to come, and sure enough rain came on Thursday which meant the abandonment of the ladies’ match against Nuriootpa. The Mid-Week Division 1 side played eventually at Tanunda after a late start while waiting for the rain to stop. Eudunda didn’t fare too well with all teams down. Mally, Bill and Greg scored two, four and ten against the formidable Peter Baverstock, Neil Stewart and Des Schiller on Tanunda’s ice-skating rink.
Division 2 had tight tussle against Freeling under the roof at Kapunda (because of the rain) finishing just three shots behind 59-62. Murray Sauer was the shining light 20-15 against peter Flowers, Roy Fiegert finished 18-23 against Ian MacFarlane, and Ron Milde 21-24 against Craig Wayling. Ron’s score would have been much worse if he had not scored a four and a five towards the end of the match.
Greg Post and Preston Eva had their birthdays last Friday and Saturday respectively. So consequently, Saturday was a day of celebration in Division 1, winning 107-89. Tait Rogers continued his outstanding form with birthday boy Greg Post in the team- a 28-16 victory over Rod Seen, Preston Eva’s birthday put him on a high ’to be sure’ leading the way for Aaron Jones finishing with a confident win 33-21 against Alex Bryan; Bill Mader had a tightly fought match against Turtle Curtis 26 -26, and Chris Jones likewise a tightly contested match with Dean Geier 20-26.
Division 3 played Angaston Blue at Eudunda and had a draw 49 each. Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Teau was under the pump all day against the talented David Tye, losing by two shots, Felix Schiller had a tough finish by losing a five late in the game, with a 13-20 result against Andy Brunton, and Ron Milde mastered the difficult windy conditions better than Mavis Elsworthy 19-10.
Division 4 now has a new format of two teams per side due to Clubs’ shortage of players. Our Division 4 side were also hosts against Angaston and won 38-37. Both rinks were locked in a very close contest with Pam Dutschke winning 22-19 against Hub Schmeid, and Roy Fiegert just two shots shy of Liz Strachan.
The Team of the Week was Tait Rogers, Geoff Schmidt, Greg Post and Mally Schutz.
