Exploring Innovation: Local Inventor Nick Schutz’s Journey from Idea to Certified Building Product

In the world of innovation, every journey begins with an idea.

Last week, I had the privilege of sharing my own journey with the members of the Inventors Association of South Australia. From its inception to becoming a certified building product, Kwiktech’s evolution is a testament to the power of innovation and determination.

As the Founder/Director of Kwiktech, I come from a background in fabrication and welding, with over two decades of experience in various sectors, including construction, oil & gas, and mining. Through these experiences, I recognized the need for a more accessible and efficient solution for joining hollow metal, particularly in DIY and construction projects.

Kwiktech was born out of this need. It’s an injection-molded connection that eliminates the complexities of cutting angles and welding, making it a game-changer for both seasoned tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts. The key advantage of Kwiktech is its versatility – if you can follow a set of detailed instructions, you can build with Kwiktech. The possibilities truly are endless.

At the recent event hosted by the Inventors Association of South Australia, I had the opportunity to dive into all things Kwiktech – from the initial concept, to the technical aspects and its promising future. The audience had the chance to explore the highs and lows, the challenges, and the triumphs that have shaped Kwiktech into what it is today.

One of the key takeaways from the event was the extensive testing that Kwiktech connectors have undergone to become a certified building product. These tests, which include compliance with AS1170 standards, ensure that structures built with Kwiktech connectors are not only innovative but also safe and reliable. Gone are the days of needing weld inspection, testing, or welder qualifications – Kwiktech simplifies construction processes while maintaining structural integrity.

The event was also an opportunity to showcase real-world applications and success stories. From DIY’ers creating their own concepts to professionals using Kwiktech in various projects, the audience witnessed how Kwiktech empowers individuals to build sturdy and accurate frameworks without the need for welding.

Looking ahead, Kwiktech is set to make an even bigger impact. With a focus on the DIY market and partnerships with key industry players, such as Independent Hardware Group, Kwiktech is poised to revolutionize the construction industry. The Easy Frame DIY Kit, which provides key cut lengths and placement measurements for creating perfectly square frameworks from 1m x 1m to 2.4m x 2.4m frames, is just one example of how Kwiktech is making building accessible to everyone. Importantly, these tables do not limit users to these specific sizes. Instead, they empower users to extend the framework and incorporate multiple Easy Frame DIY bracings within a single structure. This level of flexibility opens up a world of creative possibilities for builders and DIY enthusiasts alike.

The journey from idea to certified building product has been an exciting and fulfilling one. Kwiktech’s story is a testament to the spirit of innovation and the power of simplicity in construction. I look forward to continuing this journey, working with individuals, businesses, and communities to build a better, more accessible future.

ED: Remarks on this ‘Catch Up Story’
So much positive news is happening in our Eudunda / Robertstown / ‘Southern Goyder’ .
There are times I have had stories and haven’t managed to publish some. This saddens me, but as a volunteer I can only do so much (the local news could well be a ‘full time’ position to do a good job. This story is one of those that I missed, and I am now attempting to share it with you.
What makes this story of interest to Southern Goyder News is that Nick Schutz is a ‘Local Boy’!
Well done Nick!
