The Night Bowlers played their last game of the minor round before finals start this week (tonight). All teams are playing tonight for the first final. The Robbie Rebels are the minor round leaders. The meal voucher was won by Carolyn Doering and the bottle of wine, Maurice Nietschke.
What a final! The Ladies first final against Angaston was a squash buckling finish as never seen before! After the last end Eudunda and Angaston were drawn, so an extra end was played by each of the three rinks; two of the rinks had a two shots up/two shots down result; all eyes were on the umpire when called to the third rink for a very close measure which was declared equal, so drawn again! A further extra end was played in which Angaston emerged the winner by two shots! Result Eudunda 58, Angaston 60, which ended Eudunda’s finals’ aspirations. The Judy Milde/Judy Argent match 24-16, Pat Obst/Eileen Argent 20-17 and Joy Hams/Mavis Elsworthy 14/27. The Eudunda Ladies invited the Angaston Ladies for lunch at the Light Hotel, where a great atmosphere pervaded, continuing on from the game which was played in good spirit.
Thursday Afternoon Division 1 played Angaston at Eudunda which saw Eudunda 37-96. Murray Sauer and Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Te.Au were competitive against David Wilson and David Jaunay, while Bill Mader struggled to find the answers for Jono Voigt.
Thursday Afternoon Division 2 played Angaston at Angaston and were down 47-67. Ron Hams and Tony Scoot came second to Malcolm Johnston and Fred Thomas, and Roy Fiegert 22 to Rob Koerner 23 in a very tight match.
Division 1 played Nuriootpa at Nuriootpa and came second 74-117. The shining light was Tait Rogers with a one-shot win against Steve Heintze; Chris Jones also had a cliff-hanger 25-26 against Jim Barr, Andrew Pfitzner was 17-25 to Brenton Brown, and Bill Mader came second to John Carter.
Division 2A played Kapunda on our home turf finishing 59-80, however Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Te.Au had a brilliant win 25-22 against Jack Trotta. Ruth Scoot was down by nine shots to Bob Booth, and Ron Hams down 15 to John Dermody.
Division 3 also played Kapunda on our green and had an excellent win 73-72. Pat Obst and Marg Nietschke were down to Lance Sturtzel and Peter Maitland, however Roy Fiegert’s magnificent win 33-17 against Gloria Robinson clinched the one-shot win overall.
Team of the Week was Roy Fiegert, Jeff Willoughby, Colin Menz and Joy Fiegert.
The Club Draw was won by Mally Schutz.
After this week’s last match of the minor round, bowlers are encouraged to stay for a pizza and fish and chips tea, to round off the season.
Association Championships at Lyndoch on Sunday and Monday concluded a busy weekend of bowling. Eudunda’s competitors unfortunately were not in the playoffs.
