Eudunda Bowls News 8th October 2023
The Ladies’ opening match took place at Angaston’s new facility last Thursday (5th Oct). The whole Association of ladies gathered for the official opening of the season in wet, cold and windy weather. Eudunda played Nuriootpa and won 69-53 with all teams up. Joy Hams had a strategic game against Hanika Booth winning by 4 shots, Ruth Scoot got out of the blocks early with her team, and even though losing a couple of fives, won by ten shots. Doreen Twartz had a tight clash with Vicki Chapman, getting over the line by 2 shots on the last end.
Eudunda’s Division 1 men played at Eudunda against Tanunda and won 62-59 in a tight match across the board. Greg Prior defeated Neil Stewart 23-16, Bill Mader 21 to Mewett 17, and Greg Post found it tough going against Kevin Renshaw 18-26.
Division 2 played Kapunda at Kapunda and came home with a great win 76-43. Jeff Willoughby and Ron Milde had massive wins and plenty to carry Murray Sauer.
Saturday’s Division 1 hosted Freeling with a convincing win to the home side 104-80. Tait Rogers and his team were outstanding with a 41-19 win. On one end, opposition skipper Dean Geier stopped an ‘eight’ from being added to Eudunda’s score in a gutsy performance. Aaron Jones also had a great day against Shane Marslen 26-14. Chris Jones and Terry ‘Turtle’ Curtis had a battle with ‘Turtle’ finishing up by one shot, while Bill Mader’s team were matched by Rod Seen’s cohorts with a 17-26 result.
Division 3 played Angaston Blue at Angaston with a thrilling finish 58-66. Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Teau found Mavis Elsworthy a force to be reckoned with 15-23, Ted Schiller was challenged by David Tye 20-31, however Ron Milde had a good day against Andrew Brunton 23-12.
Division 4 also played at Angaston and were outclassed 40-87. The only shining light was Murray Sauer’s 22-14 win against Chris Buckley. Both Pam Dutschke and Jeff Willoughby struggled against Ashleigh Morris and Peter Pech respectively.
President Mally Schutz welcomed new bowlers Corey Achee, Greg Prior (returned to the fold), Rob Cavanagh and Jane Felby.
The Team of the Week was the Mid-Week’s Ron Milde, Ted Bowden and George Mitev with a magnificent 24-shot win.
On Sunday, Pam Dutschke and Judy Milde represented Eudunda Bowling Club at Tanunda Bowling Club’s Centenary celebration, while Mally Schutz, Greg Prior, Preston Eva and Ron Milde went to a tournament at Balaklava.
