Eudunda Bowls News 13th January 2024
The Night Bowls resumed for the New Year with the three bowl triples in the same drawn team triples format as the Friday Social Winter bowls. This proved interesting and very enjoyable as the hilarity and social interaction indicated. The results could not have been closer. Ted Schiller, Ted Bowden and Liz Kleinig won the night by three shots against Bob Leditschke, Trevor Prior and Murray Sauer; George Mitev (and Helen Vater who filled in half way through for him), Katrina Turner and Ron Dunsdon won by two shots against Mally Schutz, Herman Kloss and Pam Dutschke; and Wendy Schmidt, Janice Henderson and Ron Milde won by one shot against Jane Felby, Rob Cavanagh and Greg Prior.
Last Thursday, the ladies gave the top team Kapunda a run for their money at Eudunda with a cliffhanger 52-54. Ruth Scoot, the queen of comebacks, once again bowled well gaining a four on the seventeenth end against Linda Carter, however finishing 15-19. Likewise, Joy Hams had a deficit 2-13 against Lyn Schutz by the sixth end, but recovered well to be 16-20 after the 21st end. Doreen Twartz maintained the lead against Donna Woods all day due to Coral Schutz’s leader bowls making a difference, with a score of 21-15. Next week the ladies are booked in for coffee at Wohler’s after the game at Angaston.
Thursday afternoon Eudunda Division 1 played Lyndoch at Lyndoch and went down 53-79. Greg Prior went well against the talented Harry Sykes twenty- one all, Ian ‘Lumpy’ Griffiths met his match in Bob Howell 19-31 and Preston Eva scored 13 as skipper against Shane Marslen 27.
Eudunda’s Division 2 played Nuriootpa Black at Nuriootpa and were outclassed 54-73, with the exception of Ron Milde who had a pearler of a day winning 32-13 against Noel Hein. Ron Hams struggled against Bruce Kernich 11-29 and Roy Fiegert scored eleven shots for the day against Neil Collyer’s thirty-one shots.
Saturday saw a successful day for Eudunda Bowling Club. Division 1 had an exceptional win against Nuriootpa in tiger territory 102-82. Aaron Jones had a confidence booster winning 29-25 against Stuart Forbes, Kym ‘Chucka’ Schutz had a convincing win against Gary Chapman 32-17, Tait Rogers overcame Rob Grope 24-14, and Bill Mader was tested by Brenton Brown’s excellent bowling 17-26.
Division 3 travelled to Angaston and came home the victors 63-47. Ruth Scoot and her team all bowled well to win 35-10 against Faye Bain, which was enough to cover Ron Hams’ loss to Mark Blenkiron 13-21, and Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Teau’s narrow defeat 15-16 against Milky Johnstone.
Division 4 played Lyndoch on our home turf winning 34-24. Pam Dutschke had a tight game against Rex Vanstone 15-16, while Roy Fiegert had a very successful day against Jeff Pratt 19-8. Unfortunately, with only their two rinks on the green, it makes a quiet and lonely day until the other Divisions return after their days’ play,
The Team of the Week was Ruth Scoot, Judy Milde, Joy Hams and ‘Doc’ Michael Upton with a magnificent twenty-five shots up. Joy Hams has been in the Team of the Week for the last three weeks.
Please put your names down for the Cosmo Fours on Sunday 21st January.
