Eudunda Heritage Friends Celebrate 25 Years Of The Gallery
Eudunda Family Heritage Gallery (EFHG) Chairperson Dot Bonner welcomed 60 people to the annual Friends of the Gallery Morning Tea on the 14th February for what is the 25th Anniversary year of the gallery.
It was great to see some of our ex locals returing to the the town to celebrate with everyone.
Dot provided an interesting update on the work the Heritage Gallery Committee and Volunteers are doing and called up Yvonne Rohde, Delilah Balmer, Margaret and Mike Rogers for a special presentation on their support of the gallery.
Traditionally the Eudunda Citizen of the Year is invited to cut the birthday cake and this year that responsibility fell to Greg Post who incidentally has been a great supporter of the gallery since the beginning.
A great spread was put on for morning tea by the Eudunda Family Heritage Gallery Committee and volunteers for all, capped off by a piece of the lovely birthday cake and a cuppa.
Guest speaker Samuel Doering took everyone on a facinating journey through his latest research into Land Ownership in the Hundred of Neales. Although Samuel is only part way through his research, which is a huge task, he was able to focus on some areas of the district and Eudunda for his audience. Samuel showed maps of the 1869 land survey of Neales. A later map of the 1887 survey was shown. A detail almost missed was the stamp in the bottom right corner showing that the map cost ‘Price One Schilling’.
One area of focus was the land where the Eudunda Family Heritage Gallery is now situated, Allotment 23 which is the result of the land being subdived many times. Back on the 24th July 1877 a William Neill noted as a Kapunda gentlement featured in this history.
Samuel conducted a short Q & A afterward much to the delight of those present.
Eventually it was time for everyone to pack up and go home, full of praise for the gallery.
