Youth Celebrate Official Opening Of The Eudunda Skate Park With Many Enjoying A Skate!
Members of the Goyder Youth Advisory Committee (Goyder YAC) wish to thank everyone who joined them for the opening of the Eudunda Skate Park on Saturday February 3rd, 2024.
It was a very successful opening with many children and young people attending the skateboard sessions run by Build Up Skateboarding on the day. The Regional Council of Goyder (RCOG) would like to thank everyone involved with this project including the Goyder YAC members, Baseplate Design and Trinity Skateparks as well as funding provided from the SA Government’s Open Spaces and Places funding program.
Projects like the skate park have many people working behind the scenes, with Sam Rosser (Technical Officer RCOG), Debbie Hibbert (Deputy Mayor and Eudunda Ward Coucillor RCOG) and Clayton Farmer (Trinity Skateparks) working throught the project and were delighted to be at the official opening.
Clayton Farmer of Trinity Skateparks who built the skatepark came down from Queensland especially to share in the day. He made it clear that the community were very welcoming and helpful to his workers, especially during a time where local accomodation was in very short supply due to all the Alternative Energy projects in the region snapping up available accommodation and he made a special mention thanking ‘Budgie’ Schiller.
“The team at Trinity Skateparks would like to thank the local community for their support and say they had a great time here. Additionally Clayton mentioned Jackson Chenoweth, who would come to visit his crew most days to support them, and he said that the crew appreciated his support.” Clayton said, and he really happy to caught up with Jackson and thank him personally.
Some adults had a skate too, most notably were local Mum Alison Schutz who had a go, although her young son looked much more at ease on the board. Clayton also had a go to keep his skills up. Generally everyone, young and old were quite timid and careful not to come off in too spectacular a fashion, in fact there were no mishaps or injuries for the day.
Indeed the team have left the region with a wonderful legacy that will last a very long time. Clayton did tell about the team doing an initial maintenance check and encouraged Council to continue with regular checking and maintenance to keep the park in tip top condition.
Being such a hot day, ice and ice products were very popular as everyone tried to stay hydrated and the shelter and marquee were greatly appreciated.
YAC were organised with a roster, to share the tasks for the event, which included working on the free sausage sizzle, making sure everyone had cold drinks and looking after the fairy floss machine and badge making. Additional catering was delivered by ‘The Coffee Cubicle’ van came from Auburn, adding support with very tasty special drinks and wraps.
Following the skate park opening, some took up the offer of a swim in the Eudunda Swimming Pool as it was a very hot day.
