Eudunda Bowls News, Grand Final, Red Cross And More 23rd March 2024
Last Tuesday, the Bowling Club was the venue for two seminars – in the morning an Eye Health information session facilitated by Paige Lynch, orthodontist, funded by Goyder Council. Twelve people benefitted from a very interesting presentation of awareness for protection of our eyes. In the evening, ambulance officers gave a demonstration on the correct method to do CPR to save a life, and this was a great education session, with a prize of a box of chocolates for the participant who continued CPR for the longest time- which was 15 minutes!
Also last Tuesday, the team of Mally Schutz, Kym ‘Chucka’ Schutz, Ian ‘Lumpy’ Griffiths and Geoff Schmidt won the Superbowl tournament at Robertstown – well done lads!
Red Cross Night last Wednesday was a great success with thirty- six bowlers (young and older) attending. Red Cross President Anthea Ross welcomed all the bowlers and wished them an enjoyable night. A raffle was supported well by the community as donors of the prizes, and entertaining for the bowlers. Encouragement Awards were given to new young bowlers Sonny Geister, Jude Geister and Jye Schutz, and also the team of new bowler Leni Geister with (experienced bowlers) Bob Leditschke and Judy Milde. The winners of the night were Greg Post, Trevor Prior and Hermann Kloss, who incidentally lost only the first end played over the whole of the two games – they were on fire! The runners-up were Doreen Twartz, Greg Prior and George Mitev. The bowlers were treated to a lovely supper, and ‘Happy birthdays’ were sung to George Mitev and Pam Dutschke.
The Presentation Night was held last Friday night with President Mally Schutz welcoming 40 players, family and friends. The dinner was well received with the barbequed chicken ably cooked by Lumpy Griffiths, served with salads, and apple crumble for dessert. The evening rolled along with chocolate raffle, main raffle and the presentation of trophies. The ladies trophies were presented by Patroness Betty Marshall and were 100-up winner Pam Dutschke, runner-up Ruth Scoot; Championship Pairs winners Joy Hams/Pam Dutschke, runners-up Ruth Scoot/Judy Milde; Championship Singles winner Judy Milde, runner-up Ruth Scoot. The men’s trophies were presented by Patron Bob Leditschke and were 100-up winner Greg Prior, runner-up Felix Schiller; Championship Pairs winners Ian Griffiths/Corey Ahchee, runners-up Chris Jones/Tait Rogers; Championship Singles winner Andrew Pfitzner, runner-up Greg Prior. The Dick Prior Memorial Singles was won by Corey Ahchee, and runner-up Preston Eva. The chairman of selectors Murray Sauer as he was about to announce the winner of the Most Improved Player Award a hush descended on the room! Then it was revealed that Coral Schutz was the winner -well done Coral!
The Grand Final at Freeling saw Eudunda’s Division 4 compete with Lyndoch Gold for the Division 4 Pennant flag. There was an air of excitement as players and supporters arrived early Saturday morning at the Freeling greens. The players who had the honour of playing in the Grand Final were Pam Dutschke, Jane Felby, Betty Marshall and Colin Menz in one team, and Roy Fiegert, Pat Milham, Rob Cavanagh and Joy Fiegert in the other team. Pam Dutschke 7-40 played Rex Vanstone and his team who all bowled impeccably to deserve their win, while Roy Fiegert recovered well after a deficit of 2-10, to finish 15-18 against Jeff Pratt. Bob Leditschke organised a pizza lunch back at the clubhouse for the players and supporters, to reflect on what could have been!
The Association Singles and Fours were held last Sunday at Angaston for the Women and Tanunda for the Men. Eudunda ladies Singles winner Judy Milde lost all three matches in her section against Sue Lefevre ( Angaston), Hanika Booth ( Nuriootpa) and Katrina Green ( Kapunda); and Eudunda ladies Fours Doreen Twartz, Liz Kleinig, Marg Nietschke and Joy Fiegert unfortunately lost their matches. Eudunda men’s Singles winner Andrew ‘Frankie’ Pfitzner, bowled very competitively against Jono Voigt, Rob Grope and Adrian Green losing by the narrowest of margins! Eudunda’s Men’s Fours Tait Rogers, Aaron Jones, Chris Jones and Bill Mader were also very competitive even though losing by narrow margins.
Also last Sunday at the Eudunda Bowling Club, Pam Dutschke celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends with lunch and social afternoon. Pam cut the birthday cake made and iced by Michelle Hoffmann, and all sang ‘Happy Birthday’.
Please keep Sunday 28th April free for a Charity Bowls afternoon, supporting the Heart Foundation and CATCH (Country Access to Cardiac Health). This charity has been developed to improve access to cardiac rehabilitation for people living in country South Australia. Late last year, two of our bowlers Lumpy Griffiths and Frankie Pfitzner, both suffered chest pains, were hospitalized and had stents placed to keep coronary arteries open in emergency operations. These health scares prompted our bowlers to hold this event to support CATCH, so come and support this charity at 12 for 12.30pm start and have a fun afternoon of bowls. Please see upcoming posters advertising details of this event.
