Eudunda Bowls News 21st October 2023
The ladies travelled to Lyndoch on a lovely sunny and warm day. Lyndoch ladies got over the line by 3 shots overall beating Eudunda 56-59 in a nail-biting finish. Ruth Scoot was challenged by Kathy Thomson 9-27, Doreen Twartz had a tight game against Diane House’ superb bowling 13-21, and Joy Hams and her team were on fire all through the match with a 34-11 win against Sue Drummond. Selectors Doreen Twartz and Judy Milde stayed afterwards for a meeting to select an Inter-Association side to play at Burra on Tuesday November 14th. Ruth Scoot and Joy Hams were selected in our Barossa side.
Thursday afternoon Division 1 men played a tight match against Kapunda on our home turf, going down 56-64. Greg Prior had a slow start but his team bowled better in the second half finishing 16-25 to Brian Grant. Mally Schutz had a nail-biter trailing by one shot against John Dermody, and the shining light was Greg Post with his two-shot win against Greg Cruikshank.
Division 2 men hosted Nuriootpa Gold and won 59-58. Murray Sauer performed well after his hip operation to finish 19-24 to Rob Grope, Jeff Willoughby had a good win against Andrew Booth 19-17, and Ron Milde continued his excellent form against Roger Leske, winning 21-17. Being the last team standing on the green, Ron’s last end in getting two shots sealed the win by one shot.
Saturday’s Division 1 played Tanunda at home in cold and windy conditions and were victorious 108-67. Chris Jones’ team could not find the answers against Neil Stewart 16-26, Tait Rogers was 15-4 down in the first half against Tim Liersch, but he and his team rallied magnificently after smoko with a 28-20 win; Bill Mader’s team managed the wind very well and won 28-14 against Peter Baverstock, and Aaron Jones (in gaining his brother Matt as his third) were untroubled against Darryl Grear 36-7. After the game, Aaron was texting as usual when Preston remarked “If Aaron broke his thumb, he’d be speechless!”
Division 3 played Kapunda at Kapunda and were outdone 48-71. Kiwi had a hard day 12-32 against Ron Hier, Ted Schiller had a tight match against Steve Norman 19-23, and Ron Milde’s gaining eight shots in the last three ends saw his team continue their winning streak, even if only by one shot.
Division 4 also played at Kapunda and had an extremely close match across the board, winning 62-60. Pam Dutschke looked as though they were all set to win when they lost a six on the second to last end, finishing 22-24 to Maurissa Watson, Jeff Willoughby won 22-18 against Wayne Collings, and Murray Sauer drew with Peter Maitland 18 all.
The Team of the Week was Aaron and Matthew Jones, Andrew ‘Frankie’ Pfitzner, and the formidable Preston Eva winning by 29 shots!
