Eudunda Bowls News 21st January 2024
A good number of bowlers turned up for Night Bowls last Tuesday for a warm night with a thunderstorm threatening. The bowlers just finished their games before the rain started. Once again, a very close contest ensued. The winners for the night with three shots up were Ron Milde, Liz Kleinig and Ted Bowden, against Ted Schiller, Katrina Turner and Wendy Schmidt, runners up on two shots up were Janice Henderson, Hermann Kloss and George Mitev (with Bob Leditschke filling in for George part way through) against Rob Cavanagh, Marik Mosey and Ron Dunsdon, and third place with one shot up was the team of Geoff Mosey, Jane Felby and Murray Sauer against Liz Mosey, Pam Dutschke and Mally Schutz. Bob Leditschke won the raffle. An unprecedented – rain event followed the game, with Condor Laucke at Kingscourt recording ninety millimetres in a short time which caused severe flooding each side of the range of hills, both along Jaeger’s straight (Thiele Highway) and along Eudunda-Truro Road. One of the bowlers, Ted Schiller could not get home because of being stranded by the floodwaters, and slept the night in the car!
Last Thursday, the ladies played at Angaston and were outdone 33-77. Joy Hams played an unbeatable Sue Lefevre 8-20 (however, Joy played well saving 21 shots for her team during the game), Doreen Twartz’s highlight’s were getting a ‘six’, and drawing the shot when ‘seven’ down in the head. Lyn Teakle was too strong finishing 10-30, and Ruth Scoot and her team finished 15-27 against Judy Argent. After the game the Eudunda ladies enjoyed a complimentary coffee at Wohlers.
Thursday afternoon’s Division 1 played Freeling at Eudunda and had a gutsy win 62-53. Eudunda’s Division 2 also played Eudunda against Nuriootpa Gold and won 64-52. Ron Milde had a strong win 23-16 against Leon Hein, Roy Fiegert bowled well with the help of Rhonda Horne (stepping in for George Mitev) resulting in a 17-13 win against Roger Leske, and Murray Sauer had a nail-biter 24-23 against Keith Semmler.
Saturday’s Division 1 journeyed to Mount Pleasant but didn’t came home with the bacon. The hosts were too strong in the hot conditions with Eudunda’s deficit being 80-97. The shining light was Tait Rogers with his win 24-18 over Neil Kroehn, Aaron Jones had a 22-5 lead against John Webb, then the wheels fell off and finished 22-23, Greg Prior had a tight match against Bo Hambley 18-22, and Bill Mader faced some superb bowling by Brendan Taheny to be 16-34 at the end of the day.
Eudunda’s Division three hosted Tanunda and finished the victors 65-45. Ron Hams had a slump against Mike Schmidt after ‘smoko’ but regained the lead to finish 22-18, Ruth Scoot and her dream team had an inspiring win against Brian Hoklas 30-9, and this covered Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Teau’s narrow defeat by Judy Thompson 13-18.
Eudunda’s Division four also hosted Tanunda and likewise had a successful day 47-25. Pam Dutschke won 18-12 against Scotty Milne, and Roy Fiegert won 29-13 against Tim Mullan.
The Team of the Week was Ruth Scoot, Judy Milde, Joy Hams and Michael ‘Doc’ Upton.
Because there are no pennant matches this Saturday (Australia Day weekend), please endeavour to get some club championship games played, and join those already scheduled to play.
