This week Eudunda Bowling Club members entered their second century of bowling after the 100th birthday celebration last Sunday. It was pleasing to receive much publicity regarding our Centenary Celebrations in local newspapers, and last Friday afternoon President Mally Schutz was interviewed on ABC radio Drive Time about the event and our special milestone.

On Thursday, ladies travelled to Tanunda and were outdone 54-68. Joy Hams had a tough day even with Mike Rees filling in for them – losing two ‘sevens ‘early in the game made recovery difficult. Joy succumbed to Christina Doecke 16-34. Pam Dutschke performed well against Sue Yates 19-23, and Doreen Twartz bowled brilliantly against Sharon Burgemeister 19-11.

Mid-week Men Division 1 had a bye.

Mid-week Division 2 played Lyndoch at Lyndoch and all rinks were down scoring 46-63. John Greenwood faced some excellent bowling by Roger Vanstone 17-22, Ron Hams played a determined Bruce Koch 14-22, and Ted Schiller had an uncharacteristic loss to Jim Pratt 15-19. After the game, the bowlers wished Geoff (affectionately known as GG) a very happy birthday for his 95th birthday on that day. GG is our oldest bowler and still delivers his bowls very close to the jack!

Division 1 played Kapunda on our turf in a vocal and animated match which came down to the wire 90-93. Turtle Curtis was keeping pace with Katrina Green until after smoko when Turtle’s team lost two ‘sixes’, finishing 19-32, Jimmy Mader had a tight battle with Sean Knight 20-18, Kym ‘Chucka’ Schutz was also locked in combat, winning 24-20 against Brian Grant, and Chris Jones was victorious over Adrian Green 27-23.

Division 2 played Nuriootpa at Nuriootpa and finished 58-76. Andrew Fontaine was tied coming into the last end, but lost by one shot against Alby Wilkinson 21-22, Ted Schiller played extremely well to finish 24-20 against Neil Collyer, and John Greenwood played the irrepressible Bob Chapman 13-34.

Division 3 played Tanunda Black on our turf in a top-of-the-table clash which resulted in Eudunda 68 to Tanunda Black 35. Pam Dutschke found form after smoko to finish 25-14 against John Moore, Ron Hams had a friendly game against Jim Mullan 15-15, and Doreen Twartz blitzed her opponent Judy Thompson 28-6. Consequently, the Team of the Week was Doreen Twartz, Judy Milde, Rhonda Horne and Joy Fiegert.

Unfortunately, the Cosmo Fours Tournament scheduled for Sunday was cancelled due to lack of entries and the hot weather conditions. However, Caddieshack still came to our clubhouse and members and bowlers from other clubs were able to purchase their bowling needs.

Sunday was the State Pairs at Tanunda and Eudunda Bowling Club entered three teams. Andrew ‘Frankie’ Pfitzner /Corey AhChee, Turtle Curtis / Tait Rogers won two out of three in their sections, and Chris Jones/Darren Green won all three, and the play-off, to advance to the Regionals for State pairs at Waikerie on 16th February -well done Chris and Darren!
