Last Tuesday at Night Bowls, bowlers were in the Christmas spirit dressing in festive outfits and listening to Christmas music to enhance the festive mood. Two new faces played bowls- Ken Schutz from Ceduna and Roger Schutz from Point Pass. President Mally had some impressive bowling against his ‘sisters’ Pam and Judy. The winner of the night was Murray Sauer, runner-up Ted Schiller, and the Encouragement Award went to Jane Felby. Judy Milde won a bottle of wine in the raffle. The leader in the aggregate is Ted Schiller, second Bob Leditschke and third Murray Sauer. Night Bowls Committee representative Rhonda Horne paid tribute to the untiring efforts of the late Jeff Willoughby, particularly on the Night Bowls Committee, and around the club, and that he will be sadly missed.

The Ladies travelled to Freeling and were outdone 42-63, Joy Hams finished 13-19 against Daniela Madalinski, Judy Milde succumbed to the impressive bowling by Leanne Mullins 14-26, and Ruth Scoot fought valiantly against Julie Campbell 15-18. The Freeling Ladies then treated us to a beautiful Christmas lunch in their clubrooms. Our Patroness Betty Marshall thanked our hosts for the generous feast of culinary delights in a personal and friendly way.

The Thursday afternoon Eudunda Division 1 played Nuriootpa on our home turf and lost 41-87. Tait Rogers was faced with the brilliance of Geoff Langley 12-22, likewise Aaron Jones was outdone by Roger Mattschoss 18-33, and Ted Schiller was defeated by Gary Chapman 11-32.
Division 2 played Tanunda at Tanunda and struggled against the hosts 45-84. Ron Milde went down to Bernie Wallace 18-25, Roy Fiegert 16 to Rod Mewett 31, and Murray Sauer11 against ‘old Eudunda boy’ Des Schiller 11-28.

On Saturday, Division 1 played Angaston on our green, and were not disgraced against the top team. Even though the final scoreline was 72-102, there very tight matches including Bill Mader who shook Justin Morris’ confidence by leading for the first half then finished 24-28. Both Kym ‘Chucka’ Schutz and Tait Rogers were very competitive against Matt Short 17-21 and Ian Elsworthy19-22 respectively. Aaron Jones had the ‘battle of the giants’ against Jono Voigt, finishing 12-31.

Division 3 travelled to Mount Pleasant, and following an intense contest, won 57-55. Ron Hams played Gary Sloan and went down 15-24, Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Teau competed strongly against Noelene Birt and unfortunately lost a four on the last end 14-18, but the shining light was Ted Schiller with a win against Dot Holt 28-13, which secured the nail-biting win by 2 shots. It was Ted’s lucky day as after the game, he won the raffle of a 2kg box of cherries.

Division 4 played Lyndoch Blue at Eudunda and won 37-29. Pam Dutschke won in her usual
determined style 20-12, and Roy Fiegert drew 17- all with Sue Davis.
Pam’s roses at the clubhouse were at their blooming best last Saturday.

The Team of the Week was Ted Schiller, Ruth Scoot, Joy Hams and Ted Bowden.

Following the Saturday matches, a crowd of forty members, partners and friends enjoyed
Christmas Dinner at the clubhouse. President Mally Schutz welcomed all, and everyone
enjoyed the happy atmosphere, good food and refreshments. Kitchen helpers were Hospitality
students Izzy Schiller and Makayla Sauer who served the meal in an efficient and
professional manner. The Christmas raffle was drawn, and a special raffle of a car fridge
kindly donated by Jan Beggs, and ceiling fan donated by Helen Vater. The lucky winner of
the car fridge was Coral Schutz, and the ceiling fan a mystery winner yet to be found.

Matches resume in the week of 4th and 6th January 2024.
