Eudunda Bowls News 5th November 2023
Last Thursday the Ladies played Mount Pleasant on our home turf and had a comfortable win 86-33. Unfortunately Mount Pleasant were three players short, so our bowlers Peter Bonner and Jane Felby (Night bowler) filled in for Mount Pleasant. Doreen Twartz won 22-8 against Pat Bland, even though Peter Bonner was leading well for them. Joy Hams kept a convincing lead all day winning 28-13 against Virginia Carnell, and Judy Milde’s team of four bowled well against Dot Holt’s team of three winning 36-12. After the game, club coach Chris Jones was on hand to give some valuable coaching. Peter Bonner, Jane Felby, Coral Schutz, and new Mount Pleasant bowlers Judy Perry and Marylon Schumacher appreciated Chris’ s coaching tips.
Thursday’s Eudunda Division 1 men had a bye.
Division 2 played Tanunda White at Tanunda and had a slender win by one shot, 65-64. Murray Sauer won 28-18 against Barry Friebel, Jeff Willoughby struggled against John Moore 16-31, and Ron Milde, knowing the score was all square across the board coming into the last end, needed to score one or more against Mike Schmidt to win overall. Ted Bowden played a winning bowl for Ron’s team to secure the win for the side.
It was a good week for Eudunda with all sides having a win!
Saturday’s Division 1 played Lyndoch at Eudunda. Good solid scoring gave Eudunda a win over their visitors 101-74. Tait Rogers was outstanding (including a six on one end) against Darren Green 34-14, Aaron Jones (teamed with his brother Matt), the irrepressible Preston Eva and impressive newcomer to the club Ian Griffiths, won 27-16 (including a 7) against Shaun Mahoney; Bill Mader came from behind (including a 6) in the last two ends to claim victory 27-23 against Steve Heinze. Even though Chris Jones displayed some excellent bowling when he struck Lyndoch’s power team skippered by Harry Sykes, the result was 13-21.
Eudunda’s success continued in Division 3 defeating Nuriootpa on their turf 61-57. Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Teau had a tight contest against Michael Sims 20-23, likewise Murray Sauer against Bruce Kernich 16-20, and once again Ron Milde carried the side with his team’s emphatic win 25-14 against Margaret Buckley.
Division 4 also travelled to Nuriootpa and won 72-57. Pam Dutschke was locked in a tight tussle with Maureen Nolan (each team playing with only three players) 18-22, Jeff Willoughby with his new players Jane Felby and Liam Prior, and experienced bowler Pat Obst, had a draw by winning four shots on the last end, 22 all, against Rod Cunningham; and a stand out performance by Roy Fiegert, with his experienced bowlers George Mitev, Marg Nietschke and Colin Menz, won 32-13.
The Team of the week was Judy Milde, Pat Obst, Marg Nietschke and Joy Fiegert, with an excellent win by twenty-four shots.
The sheets for Men’s Championship Singles, Pairs and Club 100-Up competition needs many more names as soon as possible. The Ladies club competitions draw is completed, ready for play to commence.
