Eudunda Bowls News 28th January 2024
After a sizzling day last Tuesday, only twelve of the Night Bowlers played bowls on what turned out to be a lovely evening for bowls. The winners for the night were Janice Henderson, Jane Felby and Ted Schiller 18 (including scoring an 8) against Pam Dutschke, Ron Milde (Roger Schutz) and Rhonda Horne 10; and runners-up Mally Schutz, Bob Leditschke and Rob Cavanagh (winning by 2 shots) playing against Murray Sauer, Herman Kloss and Ted Schiller. The raffle was won by Murray Sauer.
Last Thursday, the ladies played Nuriootpa on a hot and humid morning and went down 53-69. Joy Hams got off to a flying start 10-2 until Hanika Booth began to find form with a result 20-22, Doreen Twartz had a great win including a ‘5’ on the last end against Vicki Chapman 25-19, and Ruth Scoot could not find answers for Carmen Isbel 8-28.
Division 1 men played Tanunda at home and won 64-60. The victory was due mainly to Greg Prior and his team who defeated Neil Jaensch 32-12, which easily covered the Preston Eva/Peter Baverstock match 18-25 and the Ian ‘Lumpy’ Griffiths/Ian Jaensch match 14-23.
Division 2 also hosted Lyndoch at Eudunda and won 61-38. Ron Milde played Rex Vanstone and had a draw 13 all, Roy Fiegert had a brilliant win against Brian Koch 26-11, and Murray Sauer won 22-14 against Chris Martin. Later in the afternoon, the wind came, the temperature dropped 10 degrees in half an hour and the rain stopped play, however more than 13 ends had been played to constitute the match.
Friday was Australia Day and Eudunda had two teams of bowlers play in the Burra tournament
One of our bowlers, Greg Post received Eudunda’s Citizen of the Year Award at the Australia Day breakfast in the town gardens. He was also honoured (together with Young Citizen of the Year Henry Schutz) with the Regional Council of Goyder Award. Congratulations to both recipients in making Eudunda proud, a testament to their fine example of volunteering in many vocations in our community over many years.
The bowling club kitchen looks fresh and bright thanks to Liz Kleinig who made and adorned the windows with new curtains.
There were no programmed Saturday pennants due to the Australia Day long weekend, however some club championship competitions were played. The Team of the Week was Greg Prior, Geoff Schmidt and Felix Schiller with their 20-shot win on Thursday.
