Eudunda Bowls News 23rd November 2024
Last Thursday, the ladies journeyed to Mount Pleasant and came home with a win 60-41. Pam Dutschke made a great comeback to finish 17-15 against Liz Love, Ruth Scoot also came from behind with an excellent result 19-15 against Dot Holt, and Doreen Twartz showed some magnificent passages of play to finish 24-11 against Michelle Law. Eudunda’s Marg Nietschke was the lucky winner of the meat tray.
Mid-week Division 1 men played Kapunda at Eudunda winning 58-49. Aaron Jones was dominant over John Dermody 22-18, Andrew Swain bowled strongly against the powerhouse Brian Grant winning 22-11, while Greg Prior was challenged by Mick Ryan 14-20.
Mid-week Division 2 played Kapunda Red under the roof and were outdone 34-88. Preston Eva was our only dim light going down 15-20 to D. Trotta, the two Ronnie’s contested with the Hams conceding to the Hier 9-32, and Ted Schiller had an uphill battle against Ian Dawson 10-36.
Division 1 played Angaston at Eudunda and after the downpour of rain, the green drained quickly so that play could begin. It was a payback after Eudunda’s win against Angaston in the first round, with Eudunda conceding defeat this time 65-81. Terry ‘Turtle’ Curtis was the shining light with a gutsy win 21-14 over Ian Elsworthy, Aaron Jones had a cliff-hanger against David Jaunay 21-24, Jimmy Mader met his match and more against Matt Short 13-25, and Tait Rogers in a tight low-scoring encounter scored 10 against the destructible Justin Morris 18 shots.
Division 2 also played at Eudunda on a warm and humid day against a stronger Nuriootpa side 50-74. Michael Upton was up against Alby Wilkinson 16-27, Ted Schiller was down to Rob Chapman 12-33, and Rob Cavanagh had a confidence-boosting win 22-14 over Trevor Billing.
Division 3 played at a comparatively- dry weather Tanunda, and suffered their second loss for the season 49-68. Ruth Scoot played in a team of three, compromising the chances, however finished well against Kevin Renshaw 15-23, Pam Dutschke had a battle against Brian Hoklas 11-29, while Doreen Twartz played a great match against David Armstong 23-16.
The Team of the Week was Thursday’s Doreen Twartz, Judy Milde, Marg Nietschke and Coral Schutz.
Back at the clubhouse there was a tea of Bratwurst sausage and sauerkraut on a bread roll and icecream for dessert. All appreciated the meal, then President Mally Schutz paid a tribute to George Mitev for his years of very good bowling at Eudunda, all sang ‘For he’s a jolly good fellow’ and a photo was taken of George with all his bowling friends. George commented that he loves the club, and has been a loyal supporter over the years.
